Matthieu Saladin

Born in 1978, Matthieu Saladin graduated in philosophy, music and visual arts. He is a Doctor and researcher  in musical aesthetics at Sorbonne University in Paris. His music-making takes place in a conceptual approach of music. He is interested in the history of musical forms and the relationships between music and society. He has got PhD in Aesthetics (University of Paris 1 – Panthéon-Sorbonne) : his research is on aesthetics of experimental music. He is lecturer in history and aesthetics of musics (20th century) at University of Lille (FLSH), and co-editor of the academic journal Volume! (about popular musics).His research is about contemporary free improvisation. He published several articles on this subject and was a speaker at several international conferences. Saladin is a member of IASPM of France.

As musician, he plays bass clarinet, soprano saxophone and electronics. He is also a member of the electroacoustic band “ Archipel ” together with Vania de Bie-Vernet and Stéphane Vigny since 2000 and belongs to the “ Plateformes ” trio together with Hervé Boghossian and Stéphane Rives since the autumn of 2004. He has in recent years work also on more conceptual based pieces.
